As I type this our children have started back into a new school year. We have prepared them as best we can with support and prayer for a smooth and productive year. This text in Romans 10 always reminds me of teachers for some reason. It can be applied directly to the life and purpose of a preacher and just about any other walk of life.
Messengers Of The Good News
We are called or sent out into life and our actions and results either show forward God to others or they don’t. Our teachers serve in a difficult environment under and ever increasingly hostile culture around them. Yet, many young people enter ( are called ) into this vocation. Often because they genuinely love teaching and helping others discover new things in their lives.
Most teachers live and strive to see the look on a student’s face when something they are learning clicks and the light of knowledge shines in their eyes. Teachers see a potential in a student long before the student does and they nurture that potential by teaching and guiding the student to the answers they need to connect Logic to Wisdom then to Application or Action.
I feel Paul relaying this same feeling to the Church in Rome. Jesus Christ is the only path to salvation and finding that path requires that we believe on Him ( Romans 10:9-10 ) and to do that we must hear about Him – to do that someone must tell us and in verse 15 he explains that everyone who tells must be called.
We are compelled by God himself to share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. This is not just for preachers in pulpits but for anyone that lives a life that is seen by others. We know as Christians that the potential in front of a lost soul the very gift of eternal life. Our lives are the tools of God’s love that He has entrusted to us, and our purpose is to strive to see the light of salvation in someone’s eyes when they too hear and believe.
Please pray this week for our schools, teachers, parents, and students in this upcoming school year. When you see a teacher or administrator in your daily travels, please remember them by thanking them. Celebrate the messenger that is carrying the “good news” of knowledge and wisdom as well as the Good News of Jesus to those that need to hear it.
