Yesterday was a difficult and yet meaningful day for those of us that were witnesses of the terrorist attack on 9.11.2001. It leaves us as Christians with a huge gap in understanding why and what purpose it accomplished?
We are now 21 years from that day and even with now knowing who committed the act and why they did it we are reminded that there are many groups and individuals that don’t agree with the Freedom and Faith that we are blessed with in this country.
Markers
God allows all types of markers in our lives to move us to stop and reflect on our journey here to seek the meaning it had in our lives and how it has guided and changed our lives along the way. Many markers are enjoyable and happy occasions for us – birthdays, anniversaries, graduations…
But some, God allows, are to help us remember that while we confess and know God is control of all things there are those that don’t believe in Him or share our Faith as Christians and it is only in staying close to him that we can prepare and deal with those markers when they come to our lives.
On 9.11.2001 at 8:46 am a group of terrorist non-believers created a marker for us that feels as heavy
today as it did then as we watch the scenes replayed in the news. These clips are usually only shown once a year on this day, so the marker of today can be appreciated for what it was an is in our lives. The second attack at 9:03 am was followed by one at the Pentagon and one finally diverted into a field in
Pennsylvania.
We can’t find the reason or logic in acts like this, but our Faith brings us to accept what we can’t understand as part of God’s plan and his promise that His ways and thoughts are far above ours and His Word would never return void but would always accomplish its purpose.
With that promise we reflect on this marker and remember those that died that day and how the acts of godless people can affect our lives on that day and each day since. May God bless the families of those that died that day, and may Americans live to reflect God’s love and Faith in remembering this marker today.
ISAIAH 55: 8-11
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
10 “The rain and snow come down from the heavens
and stay on the ground to water the earth.
They cause the grain to grow,
producing seed for the farmer
and bread for the hungry.
11 It is the same with my word.
I send it out, and it always produces fruit.
It will accomplish all I want it to,
and it will prosper everywhere I send it.
