For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but JOY comes with the morning.
Psalm 30:5 NLT
David penned this Psalm as a dedication for the Temple. David was well acquainted with what he felt was God’s anger when he had sinned.
Joy
He was also aware of God’s constant love for him no matter where he was or his circumstances in his life. David’s reflection can be so valuable for us today as we celebrate the Third week of Advent with the heart and spirit of JOY.
David does not acknowledge a path to avoid the pain or the consequences of our circumstances, but he does reconcile it to God’s Love or favor, no matter where we are in life. It is so easy in our human nature to become so consumed in our current negative circumstances that we allow our struggle to define us, and we see no way out.
Our perspective is far too short for God’s view of our lives. David encourages us to look at this life we have been blessed with here and our life beyond this world into eternity. Our weeping over our circumstances may be for a dark night we are in, or we may have had so many dark nights that we weep over our entire life.
Either way, David tells us that after a “moment” or “night” of God’s choosing, a JOY will come in the morning – A new day will be in front of us that God has provided for us to begin again. One day our “moment” here on earth will be over, and we will be called into the very presence of Jesus with a Shout of JOY.
May this thought be with us as we go about our day-to-day lives. When we are in a dark place, we need to remember, that God loves us, and He is bringing JOY for us in the morning.
Jesus said …
Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart because I have overcome the world.”
JOHN 13:33
