Heal Cleanse and Raise

Bible Teaching· Character Personal Development

15 Nov

8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

Matthew 10:8 NKJV

It is an interesting fact in our spiritual lives that the more often we read the scriptures, the deeper our perspective of them can grow. So often read from the Bible, and our minds automatically put things into categories or buckets where we can best process them. I have read this verse many times and always seem to think that doctors Heal the sick, only God can cleanse the lepers and raise the dead, and some priests can cast out demons, so that doesn’t leave much for me other than to understand that God freely blesses us and we are to give back freely.

Heal Cleanse and Raise

After my heart and kidney transplant earlier this year, God has blessed me with an expanded understanding of this verse. Drs do heal the sick, and God blesses their calling in life to heal others. God also heals through the prayers of the faithful because our human doctors have limits that God does not, and He can heal ALL things.

Raising the dead also took on a new perspective for me – My heart stopped twice in the last few days before my transplant, and my defibrillator kept me alive. I would not have made it much longer with my old heart. The transplanted heart and kidney allowed me to continue my life here.

In this way, I was blessed with new life, but not without a cost. Another family lost a loved one in death, and through that, I was blessed with life. I am so thankful that they gave freely of the life they freely received from God.
