No matter who we are, we travel through our lives by markers. We all mark our time here in one fashion or another – birthdays, anniversaries, milestones of achievements, and sometimes failures. We use our times of celebration to bind us so that we may better support one another in difficult times. The incomparable loss of a loved one is certainly one of the more difficult of those times.
We both give and receive that support in the immediate stress of loss, and we grasp the spiritual reality we find in Solomon’s words –
7 For then the dust will return to the earth, and the spirit will return to God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:7 NLT
The reality of interment and the spiritual promise fulfilled from a confession of faith in Jesus Christ support us through the funeral of a loved one. Yet, the next day we awake to not a house, home, or family but a life that has a hole in it. A place that was full and was filled for a few days by family and friends is now empty. It now sits on our spirits that grief is here for us.
Grief and GriefShare
We can run from grief, we can ignore grief and we can even pretend we have processed grief, but we should make no mistake – grief will have its day. You may be new and just starting down the road of loss and grief – you may have run, hidden, ignored, or pretended to process grief by grieving over a long period of time with no result. If you find yourself here, then maybe Grief Share can be a helpful experience for you.
Our Church is making our facility available for this GriefShare workshop to help you in this difficult time. Grief Share is a support group that meets weekly. You will find a warm, caring environment and will come to see your group as an oasis on your long journey through grief. There is a registration fee of $25 to cover the cost of the workbook. We are not asking for any donation, and we are not selling anything. Our goal is to extend the love of Jesus Christ to anyone that needs some support and direction in their time of grief.
I recognize the burden that grief can be and how hard it is to weather it alone. God’s promise is that when we gather two or more, HE is in our presence. It is my prayer that you will follow up with us and make plans now to attend the upcoming series of discussions that will be hosted at our Church this spring.
