The man in Mark 5 meets Jesus and only wants Jesus to leave him alone and allow him to continue his evil way of life. The scriptures says that no one could contain him and he went about his sinful ways every day until he met Jesus.
Jesus removed the evil from him, and the man appeared calm and at peace to all of the people that knew him before. They too then feared Jesus, this Man who could rebuke evil in a way that was beyond their human comprehension.
So it is with us that we come to God often looking for a way to explain or justify our lives knowing that we live sinful lives every day. No one has the power to stop us because we possess the power of free will to make our own decisions and live our lives in sin if we so choose.
We can often feel like this man in Mark 5 in that we are just lost to sin because we lack the willpower or desire to overcome it. The good news for us is that Jesus can remove the sin from our lives and leave us too with a spirit of peace and calm.
We have a responsibility once we have been cleaned of our sins in that we are to go back to our homes and take the Word of God with us to explain with our voices and our actions all that God has done for us in providing us forgiveness and freedom from our sinful lives.
The home is the center of family life, and it is in the strength of family and relationship that God desires to communicate His love to others through us. The power of a Godly home cannot be overstated in the value that it brings to our witness for Jesus in our world today. May our encounter with Jesus in forgiving our sins move us to return to our homes to tell others what He has done for us.
