Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT)
At this point in Paul’s second letter to the Church in Corinth, Paul is arriving at a conclusion to an ongoing issue he had been struggling with for a long time. He mentions, in his writings, the challenge he has as “a thorn in his side,” and he prayed for God to remove it or heal him from it. While the exact nature of the challenge Paul had is not known to us, the response he felt from God and his attitude about it is clear to us.
God Is Powerful When We Are Weak
Paul found that despite his weakness in life, God was at His most powerful when Paul was at his weakest.
Paul found the strength in his faith to “boast” or praise God for His power which showed through Paul’s life when Paul gave his life and actions to work for God even in his struggles.
Sometimes God allows storms to come into our lives to move our focus off the things that are consuming us and refocus our attention back on Him. A natural response is for us to pray for God’s help to take the storm out of our lives and a positive answer for us is when He hears us and takes the storm away.
Often in life, our most powerful experiences come when God doesn’t calm the storm, and we weather the struggle with His help. We find, like Paul, that in our weakness, God can bring forward His strength and power. He provides us a peace, in our hearts and mind, that He is in control.
It is difficult for us to slow down in a storm that we just want to go away, but with God’s peace, we can reflect the Love and Power of Jesus Christ so that the world sees Him in how we live with the storms in our lives.
