First Week of Advent Hope

Bible Teaching

First Week of Advent - Hope

We open the season of Advent by looking forward to the birth of Jesus into our world. The Apostle John tells us that The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us….. John 1:14, and while our journey will lead us there, each week, we will focus on an attribute of our faith that prepares us for the celebration of His birth. The first Sunday of Advent starts this season with a focus on Hope.

First Week of Advent Hope

Paul writes to the believers in Galatia, and with spiritual wisdom that can only be found in Paul, he articulates the eternal Hope and promise of God’s plan of salvation. Many people have curious and thoughtful questions about why Jesus came when He did? This is the only real reference that entertains that timing with an answer.

The short answer here is that it is not for us to really know and why other than it was God’s decision and plan, and like all things Paul says, it was at the Right Time. This short text does, however, address the how and why of God’s plan.

Jesus came in the human birth path that we followed and was born of a woman into our world of human natures and temptations. He came to bridge the gap of sin between mankind and God so that we might be able to come to God as His children. This wonderful Hope in eternal life is only possible for us by the Word becoming flesh!
