Sometimes, spending too much time looking into our past can be very easy. Especially in times of uncertainty in our lives, our past is at least a certainty; after all, good or bad, it actually happened. Whether we like it or not, its “known” quality brings us some misplaced comfort.
God asks us to look at it to understand our successes and failures so that we can prepare our lives to move forward in living for Him. He guides us to see our past as a place of reflection and not a place of residence for us to live in. We can use our time of reflection to see the vision of the future that he has for us in His purpose.
We cannot serve God in our actions effectively today while looking at yesterday and asking Him “why” and “what if” ?
Our Faith need not be as complicated as we make it some days. Faith simply asks us to trust the words God gave Jeremiah that while we may not know the future, we are to trust that He does, and that is for our good, and it is a future built on hope.

Our faith should lead us beyond logic and reason to rest that whatever journey God has brought us through it has been for a purpose, His purpose. We can then believe that nothing from our past was a wasted part of our lives because God meant it for our good into our future.
All of our experiences then become a part of our hope that we share with others going through the same struggles that make our futures today. It is in both our failures and successes that God prepares us to serve Him by helping others find His purpose and hope in their future. May the strength of God’s Love and His promise keep us mindful of the past with our eyes on the future in how we may bring His Hope to someone today.
