Humans were not designed to be alone. We were created to be in a relationship with one another. We naturally navigate to groups of people – communities of some size where we can associate with others.  Community helps us to gain knowledge and wisdom about life and attributes to the growth of the whole person—heart, soul, and mind. Likewise, Christians were not designed to be alone. We naturally seek others in a community of like-minded faith. One of the best examples of community in the Bible is seen in the early church in the book of Acts.

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.

Community Attracts the Holy Spirit

The Bible says the Holy Spirit is present whenever believers gather together – “ Where 2 or more are gathered I am with them…”  (Matthew 18:20). God blesses a faithful community – And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

We are drawn to God by our human desire for relationship. We are drawn to one another by our desire for community. May our lives in the community around reflect our relationship with God and bring His blessing to expand our community.
