We can waste a lot of our time trying to figure out WHY God is God and How God works- WHY? In the record of human history no one has done that and God in all of His communications to us in our instruction manual – BIBLE clearly tells us that why and how are above our ability to grasp – Isaiah 55.
God wants us to know WHO He is and WHO we are to Him. Paul tells us that God desired a relationship with us before He made the world. Think about that a moment – the creator of this universe and all that is in it, including us, wants a personal relationship with us that is a first priority for Him.
Sometimes if we are not careful, we can see the thought of predestination in this verse and I guess to some extent, depending on perspective, it could be accurate. Not in our limited human understanding where we believe in our arrogance that some of us are just good enough on our own to be predestined by God for salvation on our own merits. As Paul Harvey always said, it is the “rest of the story” where we find God’s purpose for us as His creation.
Chosen and Choice
Paul says that He chose us in Christ – you see God’s plan of salvation was and is that ANY & ALL of us may be saved to be His chosen people when we make a Choice to come to Him through Jesus Christ. Salvation is God’s method of defining His Chosen by our association with Jesus Christ. God’s purpose is so clear for us in Paul’s words – that we are chosen in Christ so that we may come without fault – “blameless” before God.
Mankind’s predestination, such as it may be, is simply that God CHOSE to have a loving relationship with us but our choice in the garden moved us out of that direct relationship because God cannot be in the presence of sin. Yet, His desire to have an eternal life with us as His creation was fulfilled in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Peter was also clear that our choice to accept being chosen by God only comes through Jesus Christ
For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says,‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone. There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”ACTS 4:11-12
Can others look at your life and tell that you have made a choice to be a part of God’s chosen people by seeing His love and purpose in you?
