Advent

The 4th Week of Advent brings us to the expectation of Love and it has no better illustration than Paul’s writing to the Church in Corinth. The expectation of Advent brings us to the understanding that Hope, Peace and Joy are all wrapped up in our Faith. Faith brings us Hope in the promise of forgiveness and eternal life thru Jesus’ life death and resurrection.

His arrival that we prepare to celebrate on Christmas is a far greater celebration than that of the miracle of life we normally observe on a new baby entering our world.  Jesus’ birth brought not just life but light into the world. The light of truth, the light faith, the light of hope and the light that leads us to eternal life in Him beyond this life that we are born into in this world.

Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit.

John 3:5

Love

The spiritual can be a struggle for us because we always want to connect it physically like our emotions for Hope, Peace, and Joy so we struggle sometimes with connecting our Faith to Love because it is not often a tangible thing we can touch or feel with our hands nor see with our eyes. That empty place that we struggle with opens up our weakness and brings forward God’s power.

It defines our shortcoming and highlights the gap between a sinful person and a Holy God, that can only be covered by His love and that Love came to us in Jesus. As we celebrate the Love of Advent in the birth of Jesus Christ, we can better relate to Paul’s writing that the greatest power in our lives is Love.

If Faith and Hope sustain us when we are left in a difficult place by life’s circumstances Paul reassures us in the 13th chapter of 1st Corinthians that Love always endures all circumstances because it is God’s greatest gift to us as His children in Jesus Christ.
