On resurrection morning, the Angels inside the empty tomb had a story to tell the women that were the first to come to pay their respects to Jesus. The women left the tomb with a story to tell the eleven apostles, and the others gathered in hiding. The scriptures say that the apostles found the story nonsense and doubted their account from the tomb.
ANOTHER STORY
Matthew tells us of another story that was being told at the same time regarding the same events but from a different perspective. The soldiers left the tomb with the same facts to relay, but the hearers of the story took it without a doubt that Jesus was really gone. They were afraid of such a happening and had requested a roman guard to prevent His body from being stolen.
Now that it was gone, the chief priests and elders had a plan. Make their worry a reality – pay the guards off to support the story that the apostles stole the body, and the religious leaders would back them up. This story was a physical solution that fit both logic and reason, so it had no room for doubt. It must have been pretty good because it is still told until this day – today in 2022 by any that still thinks Jesus was not the Messiah – our salvation and God’s only son.
THE FIRST STORY
What is amazing is that the first story that was met with doubt was soon confirmed by Faith. Nothing is stronger than a gap ( doubt ) in our lives that has been made real by God through Faith. This story has been printed, spoken, and lived through all the major events of our world because it has human doubt that is covered by God’s grace and truth.
It teaches us to trust in Faith in God by His power, not our own. We will almost always try to fit our own story into our box of logic and reason because it will make sense to others. The story that God has for us to tell will require our trust to be in Him so that the gap of logic and reason is lived out in our lives by faith.
